Carol Westron is a successfulshort story writer, with successes in competitions and short stories published in Women's Weekly. She also writes monthly articles on the Golden Age of crime for Mystery People, an international ezine. Carol writes in both contemporary and in Victorian times and her first contemporary crime novel, The Terminal Velocity of Cats, was published inJuly 2013. It features archaeologist turned Scene of Crimes Officer, Mia Trent, and so far has all 5-star reviews on Amazon. The second crime novel , About the Children, will be published in January 2014.
Carol has lived in Denmead for nearly forty years and has close links to the village. For many years, she taught Creative Writing, Poetry Appreciation and Local History at South Downs F.E. College and also taught Creative Writing at the W.E.A. She currently runs workshops in Creative Writing in local libraries.Carol's fundamental belief is that Creative Writing is good for people and it should be enjoyable and empowering.The series of workshops will be designed to build up the basic skills required to write successful short stories, articles and novels. They will cover such topics as characterisation, dialogue, plot, setting the scene, writing the senses etc. Short tasks will be suggested for learners to work on at home andd time will be spent in the next workshop on listening to this work and giving and receiving feedback as a group.
