Denmead Community Association

co-ordinate of the DCA , we are keen to hear from you.

TheTrustees form the DCA Management Committee are all volunteers, each are committeed to actively participate to offer a real service to the local Community and surrounding areas.  The Trustees aim to constantly enhance the Denmead Community Centre, offering local people a place to socialise and somewhere to try out new activities.

Monday's Regular Events

Old Schoolhouse Preschool
0830 to 1530 Monday to Friday
(Term Time only)
Suitable for a maximum of 22 children aged between 2 - 5 years (including children in nappies) Flexible hours available, and lunch club.  All weather, and secure outdoor area with access to green space on site. This pre-school operates an all inclusive policy.  Ofsted stated"...very welcoming to both children and their parents..there is a calm atmosphere..children are confident and settled...individual needs are met...worthwhile and interesting experiences...".

Mumbaba Toddler Singing Group

Pilates

Pilates has been around for 80 years and is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. The slow controlled flowing movements primarily strengthen the core muscles and stablilise and support the spine, realign the body and help correct postural problems.Courses run during term time only and consists of seven 1 hour sessions.

Painting in Water Colours

Watercolours For Beginners and Improvers starts with a 10 week introductory Module - both experienced people and novices will enjoy the range of subjects, demos, tips and problem-solving advice on offer.  This daytime course gives artists and budding artists a pathway to discovering and improving their abilities by combining hands-on guidance , clear-cut, useful information and demonstrations while allowing sufficient freedom to relax and enjoying this fulfilling activity.
The course Tutor David Moignard has worked both in the UK and overseas as a professional illustrator , fine artist and tutor.
The Watercolours For Beginners & Improvers Course is every Monday (1000 - 1200)
£10 per session or £90 for 10 weeks

Denmead Unsung Gardeners (DUG)
1000 to 1200 (Fortnightly) A group of people led by Martin Lewis and his wife Judith, meeting at the Community Centre to tend the flower bed, trim the roses and remove that unwanted weed! Contact DCA Office for next meeting date.  Remember U could be part of DUG

Upholstery Class

An introduction to soft furnishings, and uphostery.  For a step-by-step guide a specialist in traditional and modern upholstery.

Creative Writing
1030 - 1230
Carol Westron is a successfulshort story writer, with successes in competitions and short stories published in Women's Weekly. She also writes monthly articles on the Golden Age of crime for Mystery People, an international ezine. Carol writes in both contemporary and in Victorian times and her first contemporary crime novel, The Terminal Velocity of Cats, was published inJuly 2013. She currently runs workshops in Creative Writing in local libraries. Carol's fundamental belief is that Creative Writing is good for people and it should be enjoyable and empowering.The series of workshops will be designed to build up the basic skills required to write successful short stories, articles and novels. They will cover such topics as characterisation, dialogue, plot, setting the scene, writing the senses etc. Short tasks will be suggested for learners to work on at home andd time will be spent in the next workshop on listening to this work and giving and receiving feedback as a group.
Next sessions starts in Sep 2016 and consists of six sessions on alternative Tuesday mornings 1030 - 1230 noon

Afternoon Social Club (Monthly 2nd Tuesday)

A social club for Denmead's elderly residents. Currently full, but call the centre on 023 9225 6132 to be placed on the waiting list.

This study group is for U3A members only and it is currently full. U3A members who wish to be placed on the waiting list should contact Romina Conner, Group Liaison on 023 9224 0341.

Pilates Class
First Session - 1730- 1830
Second Session - 1830 - 1930
This is an non-impact exercise which is mat-based.  It targets deep abdominal muscles, strengthens the lower back and corrects posture.  The class is suitable for all age groups and abilities.

A small friendly group who meet from 2.30 to 4.30 on the third Tuesday of each month to discuss a book which has been chosen by them, but supplied by Waterlooville Library.  Books are distributed at one meeting and discussed at the next.

Awareness Meditation Course

Zumba Toning

Lisa will take through a routine to tone and sculpt your body with the optional use of Zumba maraca-like toning sticks.  This class is low impact exercise which is ideal for beginners. You will need to bring along some small hand weights and a drink.  Lisa is now offering an optional abdominal work out so please bring along a mat. Lisa is a member of REPS and ZIN.
